Show Us Your Life - Baby Gear

Kelly's Korner is hosting a Show Us Your Life - Baby Gear this week. Here are some items that my husband and I found to be a PLEASANT SURPRISE; MOST USEFUL; BEST QUALITY (after trying many!); and/or COULDN'T LIVE WITHOUT:
[disclaimer: my girls are now age 2 and 3. I'm sure there are new and improved baby items now]

Graco SnugRider Infant Car Seat Stroller FRAME

We used this Graco stroller FRAME all the time when Sydney was in the Infant Graco SnugRide carseat. We had a couple other strollers, but this was our favorite with the infant seat. It was LIGHT, FOLDS FLAT, INEXPENSIVE AND PRACTICAL and it had cup holders!! We traveled non-stop with Sydney using the Graco Snugride Seat and Frame. It made traveling EASY! Of course, when we had Sophia 12 months later, we moved to a double stroller that could accommodate Sophia in the Graco Snugride and Sydney, a toddler.

Above photo: Sydney and me in Tenerife Spain with Graco Snugride and frame :)

CARES, the Child Aviation Restraint System

This is a TINY contraption and a great invention if you FLY a lot with little ones! It saves you from hauling a HUGE CAR SEAT on the airplane. You can then check the car-seat through curb-side or do what we do, reserve a car seat with the rental car agency. Click here for photo of CARES

The "Porche" of car seats that grows with your child and provides ultimate SAFETY (Fits 1 year to 80 lbs/59 inches!). Our girls are now 2 and 3, these car seats still look brand new and are soooo comfortable! It's height-adjustable and as soon as the child outgrows the 5-point harness and seat cushion, you can remove them, converting the Young Sport into a booster seat. It's even easy to install and remove... AND It looks GREAT! I have Recaro's for both girls in my car. Bob has a nice Britax Boulevard carseat in his truck. We really like the Britax seat, but not as much as the Recaro's.

DR. SEARS!

The baby book that I lived by when it came to guidance on taking care of Sydney & Sophia when they were babies. I believe in the Dr. Sears way...proof is in my pudding ;)

Above photo: Sydney was almost 3 months old in this photo.
We were heading to Canary Islands, Spain for vacation.

 Infants Mylicon

Provided us with sleep! Worked like a dream... give it only 15 minutes, gas is gone and our girls were sound asleep!!

Photo Above: Sydney @ 3 months... a very happy and GREAT sleeper despite the almost nightly gas.

 Chicco Hippo Travel Seat

Restaurant Table, Pop-up Camper Table, Grandmom's Dining Room or Kitchen Table, Hospital Cafeteria, an Outdoor Dining Table, wherever there's a table... This snaps easily on to almost any table and it FOLDS UP FLAT!! If filthy public highchairs gross you out, try the HIPPO!

BABYBJORN Plate and Spoon

Of all the baby plate and spoons we have/had, the BabyBjorn Plate and Spoon was by far our favorite AND WE ARE STILL USING THEM. Minimal mess, no skid bottom and easy for the  little ones to self feed with its great shape.

Photo Above: Sydney 14 Months old at school  eating breakfast ;) so cute!!

Photo Above: Sophia (2 years) eating Pasta!

comes in double or single... you do not feel like you're pushing a load even with 2 kids!!!

As soon as they were eating solids, we had them sitting in the SVAN high-chair which converts to a toddler/child chair which we use daily!! We have two of them... we love them and the girls love them. We always get compliments on these stylish chairs that match our decor.

Dollar Tree PINK Diaper DISPOSAL Bags with handles

Lastly.... Dollar Tree 100 PACK of PINK diaper disposal bags for $1! (similar to these). They even have a baby-powder SCENT. They are really good bags too. My sister, Esther, turned me onto these.

OH YEAH, can't forget the

Medela Double Breastpump Backpack

I used this when breastfeeding both girls and when I was out of town traveling for work. It worked great!

Odd assortment and from expensive to dirt cheap! These are the items that stick out in my mind right now... it's been a couple years, I'm sure I've forgotten a few infant and 1 year old items that I couldn't live without :). This was fun.

Show Us Where You Live Friday: Backyard-igans

This week over at Kelly's Korner, it's garages and outdoor spaces. I'm not too excited about showing the garage ;), but I am over excited about sharing our backyard with you.

Below are some pics of my favorite summer spot.... the "backyard". We love the view of the golf course behind our house. We back up to the 1st hole, but have a stream & a tree-line as a buffer.

We had an amazing pool constructed by a couple years ago so there's not much of a "backyard" left (at least not the "Backyardigans" green grassy kind.) There's enough yard to play Bocce Ball between the far-side of the pool and the little stream (or maybe a future swing-set for our little girls). The past year my husband has been working on the landscaping around the pool/retaining walls and some additional landscaping right behind the house. I can't wait until it all grows in to complete the look of the pool and the back of the house. Credit goes to my husband, who does all of the planting (and replanting to accommodate my many changes. HA!). He also built the deck and the paver patio. Arista did all three retaining walls (due to the steep back yard) and the pool... they did an awesome job with the perfect symmetry we were trying to accomplish.

Sorry about the dark pictures... the sun already set when I was snapping most of these pictures.

There are two smaller retaining walls on the "house-side" of the pool and one larger retaining wall on the opposite side of the pool (large wall is not pictured below). The pool construction company had to work with the steep backyard and narrow depth of yard and did an amazing job.
The pool has 3 "square" areas - a sun shelf, a spa and the stairs. The equal squares in between hold the lounge chairs and the table.

I didn't love the idea of a "monster" slide... BUT the girls and all of my nieces & nephews LOVE IT!

Pictured below is the paver patio that my hubby built. The patio is under the deck so it's shaded. It's a great place to sit during the hot summer.

Looking down the stairs at the two smaller retaining walls with planters:

I really like the steps that go down to the pool!! This may be my favorite part of the hardscaping work. It was done perfectly... and blended in with the EXISTING paver patio perfectly.

We have 3 pets- 2 cats (Snoop & Uno) and an Eastern Painted Turtle. We found the turtle in the pool last May when it was being summerized. It was a tiny, little baby and has grown into a thriving pet turtle. Sydney named him "Mr. Turtle" and then she changed it to "Mr. Robot Turtle". They feed and take care of him.. we keep his tank on the patio in the Summer and inside with a heat lamp Fall through Spring.

During the warmer months, the girls have lunch or do craft projects on this picnic table that sits on the patio:

"Stuff" my hubby has hanging behind his patio bar:

Our latest project:
A couple weeks ago we added some
Stepables (different types of little Thyme plants) by a stone pathway that goes to a side gate behind the house. The stones were given to us by my hubby's friend who works at a quarry. We need a few more stones to complete the walkway to the gate. It will look much better once the Thyme begins to grow & cover the ground/mulch.

Thank you for stopping by for a splash of our outdoor living!

In honor of Sydney's favorite Noggin Show:

First Snow of the Season

On Friday, Sydney woke up at the crack of dawn after seeing the snow laying on the ground before going to bed the night before. We went sledding EARLY before the sun came up to warm and melt the snow away...

Missing Summer already....

The past couple days have been dreary... we've begun our winter hibernation, rarely leaving the house except to go to the grocery store (plus a few work trips for me and archery hunting for Bob). Today, we are missing the outdoor activities that we do as a family all summer long...
Feeding the ducks & eating ice cream at Suloman's Milk....

Goofing off with Daddy in the pool....

Grilling and eating Bob's yummy burgers on the deck....
and Mommy's fresh berry yogurt parfaits...
Relaxing outside after dinner with a nice glass of wine...
while the girls ride their bikes or run ramped on the deck before bath time....

Summer weekends with family and friends....

.... and did I mention great, fresh food!... all summer long...

a simple summer routine that we love, miss and look forward to.
...
I hope to make the best of the cold months... it's not all dreary--we are looking forward to the Christmas season and a few good snowfalls (and spring to come quickly!).

a taste of summer

How summers always seem to fly by… I did very little air or car travel this summer, but work was still crazy busy with emails, phone calls, emails, Live Meetings and more emails. Argghhh – some days I feel like quitting so that I can spend more time with the girls. Then I have those energized days where I love my job and the challenge of it all (...had to mention that in case my boss’s wife is reading this… Hi Darlene! ).

We never did get around to having a big bar-b-q party. We did have a few little cookouts with family. My hamburger loving husband did lots of grilling this summer. His 3 girls reaped the benefits… burgers with gorgonzola, veggie kabobs, corn-on-the-cob, cucumber & tomato salad and Becky’s Baked Beans! If you live in the Gilbertsville area you need to try these baked beans located at the Deli counter in Freed’s Supermarket (2024 Swamp Pike, Gilbertsville)… credit goes to Connie our next door neighbor for having them at one of her cook-outs... You will never buy Bush’s or make homemade ever again!

...
The girls had a great summer. Sydney (2 ½) started the summer venturing into the hot tub with a float (the type with leg holes providing complete support and security). Sophia (1 ½) started with arm swimmies. She was very brave from day one… she ventured in the pool even the deep end! Over the summer, at her own pace, Sydney began to expand her swimming skills and comfort level. By the first week of September, Bob had them both jumping off the diving board. They both know how to hold their breath when they go under water (Sophia’s been able to do it almost all summer).
...
Only weeks ago, Sydney would have preferred to stay in the house to read a book or watch Noggin and Sprout… now she wakes up asking if she can go swimming. Bob and I are so surprised. We are trying to take advantage of her desire to swim.... there are only a few "pool" weeks left in the season. I’ve posted some pics below of Sydney jumping off the dive and Sophia jumping in the hot tub.

1,2,3...

Yeah!

Sophia's turn... 1,2,3...

20 times off the diving board is exhausting!
